Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said they have withdrawn cases against 146 youth of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district who were named in twenty-one cases of stone-pelting.
DIG south Kashmir SP Pani while making the announcement said that the youth granted amnesty won’t be called to police stations.
“146 youth who were named in 21 cases were granted amnesty today. These youth won’t face any issues in getting passport or other services. They don’t need to follow their cases anymore,” he said while addressing scores of such youth and their families at police station Pulwama.
Earlier, the youth raised issues like summoning to police stations in very old cases.
CM Mehbooba Mufti had last month announced launch of the centre’s amnesty for first time offenders of stone pelting, a move that could see police to drop charges against an estimated 4500 people, most of them youngsters.
“It gives me immense satisfaction to restart the process of withdrawing FIRs against first time offenders of stone pelting.
“My government has initiated the process in May 2016 but it was unfortunately stalled due to the unrest latter that year. This initiative will provide them an opportunity to rebuild their lives” Mehbooba had said.
