Rs 50K was settled to support land grabbing; more arrests likely
The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on Friday caught an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) posted in Bishnah Police Station red handed while demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
On specific inputs, the CBI sleuths constituted a team and laid a trap. The accused ASI has forced the complainant to manage Rs 50,000 for getting relief in a land encroachment case.
ASI Sham Lal agreed to accept Rs 20,000 in first installment while Rs 30,000 was decided to be paid after giving the favour to complainant.
Sources informed that CBI team with the arrest of ASI Sham Lal, started the probe. It is being suspected that some senior police official are also in league with the arrested ASI. More arrests in this case cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, ASI Sham Lal has been taken into custody. CBI teams also searched his office and seized some documents.
The matter is under probe, said a CBI investigator, adding that the CBI is working on various theories to nab other officials involved in the encouraging bribe culture in police stations.
