Srinagar, Feb 01 ; Renowned environmentalist and social activist Manzoor Wangnoo was conferred the Green Hero Award 2026 at the International Conference and Global Leadership Awards held in New Delhi.

The award was presented in recognition of his sustained, community led work in environmental conservation, education, ethical tourism, and social welfare.

Wangnoo, who has worked for over two decades on the revival of degraded lakes and springs in Kashmir, is the Chairman of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation, Nigeen Tourist Traders Association, and Moral Education Environment and Relief Council of private schools association JK. Through his flagship initiative Mission Ehsaas, he has led large scale efforts to restore Khushalsar, Gilsar, Nigeen, and other neglected water bodies, while promoting public participation and long term sustainability.

While accepting the award, Wangnoo said the recognition was not personal but belonged to his parents, family, team members, and all those who stood by the mission during difficult phases. He also recalled that encouragement received after the mention of Mission Ehsaas in the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat and the inauguration of Phase 4 of the mission by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha strengthened the resolve to continue the work with greater responsibility.

He also expressed heartfelt thanks to Edufam International Academy, especially Dr Helema Sadia, Chief Guest, and to everyone who believed that honest, consistent work, done quietly and with sincerity, can truly create change.

He highlighted the importance of ethical intent, public participation, and scientific planning in sustainable development. He said that restoration of water bodies directly supports livelihoods, stabilises urban ecology, and strengthens tourism, while education and values ensure long term societal balance.

The organisers, Edufam International Academy, stated that the Green Hero Award was given to Wangnoo for demonstrating measurable impact on the ground and for integrating environment, education, and community welfare in a consistent manner.

The award ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries, policymakers, academicians, and global delegates. The recognition places Wangnoo among leading voices advocating sustainable and responsible development through grassroots action and institutional collaboration. (KNS)
