Students of a Government Primary School along with their parents protested in Dooru Shahabad area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday in front of SDM office Dooru against relocating the school to another village due to unavailability of school building.

While talking to the protesting parents said, “the education department had shifted the school in their village to another village about 1 km away, due to which their children are now compelled to take a dangerous route while going to school as wild animals are often roaming in that area”.

However the children and parents demanded that the school should be set up in their village. It is pertinent that the school has been shifted from Shashtargam village to Sanchak village as earlier it was located in a rented house.

When contacted Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Qazigund in this regard, he said, “the school had to be shifted due to non-availability of building but the decision”.

Meanwhile, he added that decision would be reconsidered while keeping in view the plight of the children.
