Budgam, Dec 09: A broad-based civil society delegation on Tuesday lauded Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat (IAS), for what it termed a “historic, law-anchored crackdown” on illegal and unauthorised brick kilns across the district, calling the drive a vital step toward environmental justice and protection of farming livelihoods. The delegation also urged the administration to sustain and intensify the campaign so that all violative and polluting units are permanently shut in accordance with environmental and land‑use regulations.
Memorandum and demands
Along with a formal memorandum of appreciation handed over to the DC, the delegation recorded its “profound concern” over the cumulative environmental and livelihood impacts of unregulated kiln activity in the district. It called for a sustained, district‑wide drive, stronger monitoring, and transparent public communication so that Budgam’s air quality, water resources, and farmlands are safeguarded for future generations.
