Srinagar, July 7: More than 150 representatives from different sections of Jammu and Kashmir’s civil society gathered at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Srinagar, on Tuesday to deliberate on the issue of restoration of statehood to the Union Territory.
The meeting was presided over by Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President of JKNC and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
During the meeting, the participants unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Union Government to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay.
The resolution, unanimously endorsed by the civil society representatives present, described the demand for statehood as a collective and broad-based aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It reaffirmed the participants’ call for the immediate restoration of full statehood, emphasizing that it is essential for strengthening democratic governance, safeguarding the constitutional rights of the people, and ensuring effective public administration.
The meeting concluded with a unified appeal to the Union Government to fulfil its commitment and expedite the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
