Clashes erupted in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Saturday following fresh braid-chopping incidents in the adjoining Kulgam district.
Reports said that the latest braid-chopping incident took place in Nihama area of the district at 10 am.
The victim is mother of three children, and is under treatment at Public Health Center Nihama.
The clashes took place in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town against the unabated braid chopping incidents in the district.
Police lobbed several tear-gas shells to disperse the crowd, triggering clashes in the area. The clashes soon spread to other areas of the town including Achabal Adda and old town localities of Reeshi Bazar.
Also, on Friday five more braid cutting incidents were reported in Anantnag and Budgam districts of Kashmir.
Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. So far the police and the authorities have been clueless.
On Friday Jammu and Kashmir Police announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for credible information to nab people behind braid chopping incidents.
A helpline has also been established so that “people could inform and seek assistance with regard to any braid cutting incident.
Braid-cutting incidents were reported from various north Indian states before reaching Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, last month according to police 60 incidents of cutting of braids were reported from Rehari, Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Rajouri, Reasi, Doda and Udhampur districts of Jammu region triggering panic among the people there.
