The government today said 1,993 fresh cases of Coronavirus were reported from across India in the space of 24 hours, taking the total number to 35,043 cases and the death toll to 1,147.
“564 recoveries have happened in 24 hours. The recovery rate is 25.37%,” said Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“Districts have been divided into three zones and concentrated efforts are being made to break the chain of transmission.”
In what could be yet another Centre vs Bengal tussle over Coronavirus, the state government has written to the Union Health Ministry, calling the fresh categorization of 10 districts as red zones ‘erroneous’. The Mamata Banerjee government claims that based on the Centre’s parameters, only four districts of Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore, fall under red zone.

“Demand for PPE kits has been projected at 2.01 crore in India. We have placed orders for 2.22 crore kits out of which 1.42 crore kits are being procured in the domestic market. 1.87 lakh kits are being produced daily in the country,” he said.
“There is a total demand of 75,000 ventilators; total 19,398 ventilators available and 60,884 ventilators have been ordered,” he added.
DRDO has developed 3 types of new PU coated nylon/ polyester and technology transfer to manufacturers of India, he said further adding that we have ordered 2.49 crore N95 masks.
“There is a demand for 35 lakh RT-PCR kits; ICMR has placed an order for 21.35 lakh kits. We have received 13.75 lakh kits so far,” he said.
