Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday administered the unity pledge and flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ in Srinagar on the occasion of ‘National Unity Day.’

The ‘Run for Unity’, commemorating National Unity Day, the birth anniversary of the visionary leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, commenced at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and concluded at the Botanical Garden, embodying the spirit of unity and togetherness that Sardar Patel so passionately advocated.

As participants gathered at SKICC, there was a palpable sense of anticipation in the air. Young and old alike donned their running shoes, united by a common cause and communal spirit. The race commenced amidst cheers and vibrant banners, each step taken symbolizing the collective commitment towards national integration.

The event saw participation from a diverse array of individuals, including students, local residents, and dignitaries. This gathering highlighted the importance of community involvement in promoting national values. It fostered an environment where people could come together, regardless of their age or background, to honor a leader whose philosophy resonated deeply with the fabric of Indian society.

Earlier on Monday, CM Omar Abdullah kicked off Vigilance Awareness Week and administered Integrity Pledge to promote integrity and transparency across public services. Officers across the region joined in person and via video conferencing. CM Abdullah emphasized a corruption-free J&K, urging integrity as a guiding principle.

“Some may feel that they can exploit this system to their advantage, that they can find loopholes in this system that we have in J&K at the moment, but please rest assured, this is very much a temporary phase. I have just come back from very successful meetings in Delhi. I have received assurances at the highest level that the commitments made to Jammu and Kashmir, particularly with regard to our governance model, will change. Therefore, if there is anybody who believes that somehow the fact that we are a UT will shield you from the consequences or practices that go against this pledge, please remember, the shield may last temporarily, and that once full statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir there will be no loopholes to exploit or any advantages to be taken by playing one against the other.” Omar Abdullah said.
