SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said the state emblem is meant for government functions and not for display at religious places, expressing disapproval over its use at the revered Hazratbal shrine.

“The emblem was not meant to be displayed at the Dargah Hazratbal. The Waqf Board should have apologised for the mistake they committed by hurting religious sentiments,” the Chief Minister remarked.

His statement comes amid public criticism after the emblem was placed at the shrine, sparking outrage among devotees who termed the move insensitive and disrespectful.
