Ahmedabad, August 1: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a nostalgic step back into India’s freedom struggle legacy as he tried his hand at spinning cotton on a traditional Charkha, reminiscent of Mahatma Gandhi’s cherished symbol of self-reliance and simplicity.
Sharing his experience, the Chief Minister remarked, “I was also able to try my hand with a Charkha. I had a very patient teacher who tried to teach me to spin cotton in the same way that Gandhi ji did decades ago.”
The symbolic gesture, made during his visit to a cultural display at the Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF) in Gujarat, underlined his appreciation for India’s rich heritage and Gandhian values. It also served as a subtle message on the importance of sustainability, traditional crafts, and grassroots empowerment.
Omar Abdullah’s interaction with the Charkha was well-received, adding a reflective note to an otherwise business-oriented event. It highlighted the continued relevance of Gandhian philosophy in contemporary India, especially as leaders seek to reconnect with the country’s roots and traditions in the era of modernization and global outreach | Kashmir Pen
