CM Omar throws open Asia’s largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 16 : Marking the arrival of spring in Kashmir, Asia’s largest Tulip Garden was thrown open for people on Monday, with thousands of tourists and locals expected to visit the iconic garden to witness the much-awaited floral spectacle.

According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden located at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range in Srinagar was thrown open by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Opening of the Tulip Garden marks the arrival of spring in the Valley and signals the beginning of Kashmir’s tourism season.

Spread across terraced slopes overlooking the famous Dal Lake, the garden is set to burst into bloom with lakhs of tulips in a wide range of vibrant colours and varieties, offering a breathtaking view to visitors.

Officials told KNO that more than 70 varieties of tulips have been planted in the garden this year. In addition to tulips, other spring flowers including hyacinths, daffodils, muscari and ranunculus have also been planted to enhance the beauty of the garden and add greater diversity to the floral display.

Every year, the garden attracts thousands of tourists, nature lovers and photographers from across the country and abroad during the bloom season, making it one of the most visited tourist attractions in Kashmir during spring.

Authorities have also made elaborate arrangements to manage the anticipated rush of visitors during the blooming period, including transport facilities, parking arrangements, security deployment and other necessary visitor amenities.

Notably, KNO that had earlier reported that the Tulip Garden this year will be thrown on March 16. The news agency had also carried detailed reports about preparations, varieties of flowers and other arrangements ahead of the opening of the Asia’s largest tulip spectacle—(KNO)
