Constitution Day was celebrated for the first time in J&K with fervour, enthusiasm Under “Hamara Samvidhan,
Hamara Swabhimaan” campaign.
Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated every year on November 26. This day marks the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949 by the Constituent Assembly of India. The Constitution finally took effect on January 26, 1950, when India became a republic.
The Government of India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment declared November 26 Constitution Day in 2015, the year that marked the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution. Previously, the day was celebrated as Law Day.
The Constitution established India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic, guaranteeing its citizens justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Thus, the day underscores the importance of national unity, fostering unity in justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir was celebrating Constitution Day for the first time. Addressing a gathering at the Supreme Court’s Administrative Building Complex, in New Delhi, on the Constitution Day, the PM said, “Today, for the first time, the Constitution Day was celebrated in J&K.”
Reflecting on the seamless integration of the region with the rest of India, he attributed it to the strength of B R Ambedkar’s constitutional vision.
PM Modi called the moment historic and said that it was only by the power granted by the Constitution that the Constitution framed by Ambedkar was in force even in J&K . He reflected on the legacy and transformative impact of India’s Constitution, calling it a guiding light for the nation.
Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (JKLA), Abdul Rahim Rather led the celebrations of Constitution Day by reading out the Preamble of the Constitution at Central Hall of Assembly Complex here. Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker highlighted that this day marks a significant milestone in our country’s democratic progression. He reiterated that by celebrating this day, we all have an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of the framers of the Constitution.
J&K BJP celebrated the day of adoption of the Indian Constitution. BJP General Secretary (organization) Ashok Koul, BJP National Secretary & MLA Dr. Narinder Singh and MLA Ch. Vikram Randhawa addressed the programme.BJP leaders also paid floral tribute to the Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar remembering his important contribution to the framing and adoption of the Indian Constitution. Former Minister Ex MLA and senior leader of BJP Sukhnandan Choudhary also paid tribute to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar (Baba Saheb). He said that governments may come and go, but our democracy and fundamental rights must flourish. Priya Sethi, Senior BJP leader, Former Minister and Member of the National Executive also addressed a programme and emphasized the enduring significance of India’s Constitution in safeguarding citizens’ rights and fostering national unity.
A similar function was held here at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu. The function was organized by District Congress Committee Jammu led by Th. Manmohan Singh. Former Minister and Senior Congress leader Mula Ram presided over the function.Senior leaders Yogesh Sawhney (Former Minister), Rajnish Sharma (Treasurer PCC), Hari Singh Chib, T. S. Tony(DDC), Bhushan Dogra, Narinder Sharma, Gurdarshan Singh, Dwarka Choudhary, Rajinder Singh Jamwal, Suresh Dogra, Sanjeev Panda, Kapil Singh, Vijay Sharma (Seva Dal), Madan Lal Chalotra(OBC) and Zahoor Tantery were also present.
Similar functions were also organized by District Committees Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and also in almost all the district Headquarters in Kashmir Valley.
Srinagar District Congress Committee held a function to celebrate the Samvidhan Divas. The function was presided by District President Irfan Naqib.
Similar functions were held in Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Budgam, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts in Kashmir province.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also celebrated the day and declared its commitment to protect and respect the Constitution as a sacred document for all citizens.The program, held at Party Office Satwari brought together BSP seniors, including State President Darshan Rana, State Vice President Charanjit Chargotra, State Coordinator Gurbaksh Gourav, State General Secretary Shashi Bushan Thapa and others.
Apni Party celebrated Constitution Day that provides equal opportunity and protects the rights of the citizen of the country under the Constitution of India.A program was organised to celebrate the day at the Apni Party Office in Jammu. Dr BR Ambedkar was remembered for his contribution in the frame work of the Constitution.The photo of Dr BR Ambedkar was garlanded with flowers and his unmatched contribution was remembered by the Party leaders.
In continuation of the activities commemorating Samvidhan Divas 2024, the Law School organized a range of events including a Preamble reading of the Indian Constitution.Dr. Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, spoke on the occasion, emphasizing the significance of the Preamble as a key to open the minds of the framers of the Indian Constitution and a guide to understanding the nation’s foundational values.The Preamble reading activity was attended by faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to the noble ideals and values enshrined in the Constitution.In order to celebrate adoption of Constitution of India, a celebration was held at Bn Hqrs, under the overall supervision of Suram Singh (SSP) Commandant JKAP-8th Battalion, Miran Sahib Jammu.Speaking on this occasion COJKAP-8th Bn told that Indian Constitution, was adopted on November 26, 1949, and it came into effect on January 26, 1950. It is the foundational document which defines India as Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, and Democratic Republic Country. It guarantees the fundamental rights to all the citizens. Principles of State Policy have also been provided in the said document.
National Constitution Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at SMVDU . The event was attended by attended by faculty, staff and security personnel of the University.The ceremony was led by the Registrar of the University, Ajay Kumar Sharma. The occasion was marked by a solemn pledge taken by all present to uphold the spirit of the Indian Constitution.
The Constitution Day was celebrated at Central Sanskrit University Shri Ranbir Campus, Kot- Bhalwal, Jammu. On the occasion, the Campus Director Prof. Shreedhar Mishra administered an oath on the Preamble of the Constitution to the professors, staff and students.In this regard a function was organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of the College in which Dr. Ashaq Malik, Coordinator, IQAC was resource person. Dr. Mohd Zabair and Dr. Ansir Ahmed Sheikh from the Department of Political Science coordinated the event.The Electoral Literacy Club of Dogra Degree College also celebrated the day with an inspiring event dedicated to fostering awareness and respect of the Constitution of India among the college students,To commemorate the day, NSS Unit in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Committee of GDC Sidhra organised a pledge to mark the occasion of the adoption of Constitution.All the faculty members and the students took the pledge while remembering as the guiding purposes and principles of the Introductory document of the Constitution.

At District Hqrs, the preamble reading ceremony was held at DPL Doda in which all police officers/officials of District Police Lines participated and Preamble of the Indian Constitution was read out to all the participants.
On this occasion, SSP Doda Sandeep Kumar Mehta administered the pledge to officers/jawans of District Police Doda.
The Department of Law at Jammu University celebrated Constitution Day with an insightful session led by guest speaker, Justice Subhash Gupta (Retd.), former District and Sessions Judge.
Justice Gupta delivered an engaging lecture on the importance of the Constitution of India, highlighting its evolution from the pre-independence era to modern times.
He discussed the profound impact of the Constitution in shaping India’s democratic framework and governance.
