This is related to the article titled “Corruption In Urdu World: Urdu Professors and the Decline of Urdu “ by Rashid Rashdee published on 23 March 2023. The author has raised serious concerns regarding corruption in the Urdu world. He has also levelled serious allegations against anonymous people and nobody has written a rebuttal or raised any concern on the same which speaks volumes about the matter.
It’s a known fact that chamchagiri and chaploosi have ruined everything in Urdu. Then corruption dealt a severe blow to whatever integrity was still intact. It’s true that apart from government apathy, Urdu professors have ruined the whole Urdu world with their misdeeds and wrongdoings. By taking money from candidates for appointments, as the author has mentioned in his article is a serious issue which not only exposes the nefarious designs of these crooks and venal professors.
The news of corruption by professors who took money from candidates during JKPSC interviews was published by many newspapers and broadcast on the radio which has exposed the system and recruiting agencies. As the author has mentioned in his article that recruiting agencies have to take a call and take a stand vis a vis this corruption and when calling for experts should look into the moral character of the subject experts.
Honest Professors and experts in language and literature have to think about this rot which has run deep and seeped into every department of Urdu at Colleges and Universities and departments. It becomes clear that Urdu professors take money from candidates, even though some have befooled some candidates and looted them.
The testimony of many candidates mentioned by the author is exposed how the rot is deep. As the one candidate has mentioned :
“When the JKPSC recruitment agency of Jammu and Kashmir was the interview day for Urdu, a Professor from Jammu met the experts in a hotel a day before and after a few days the results were announced. It appeared that the deal was already done.”
It’s true that venal and corrupt Professors have ruined the Urdu world and sank its boat, never seen before. By taking money and developing a chaploosi culture, the Urdu language has been reduced to mushaira and biryani. Nothing new and worthwhile is coming out in Urdu at the moment. Professors are only worried about their bellies. Then there are some Professors at Jammu who are misusing their position and influence to get “their candidates” selected by bribes and corruption. Even one has attained the infamous title “ Vodka Player” which speaks about the rot and how things are turning out in Urdu. Conferences and seminars have lost their purpose and are meant only for “wah wah” and flattery and to enjoy biryani which is unfortunate.
This is what is of more concern. The problem is, recruiting agencies don’t take pains to bring experts with good moral character and having integrity. This can be got from various quarters about who is sincere and honest. It needs a bit of time. Experts should not be brought in haste. Every care should be taken in this regard.
Urdu has to be freed from bribery and corruption culture. Gangs and groups that promote corruption must be exposed and disbanded for the betterment of Urdu. We have to think about the future of Urdu. If the rot is not stopped immediately, Urdu’s fate will be sealed within a year. people are already lost interest in Urdu and no good students are coming now. Even many have switched to Hindi and other regional languages for better employment opportunities.
