Kashmir’s cultural canvas is all set to witness a milestone with the upcoming release of Baand, an original Kashmiri musical feature film rooted deeply in the valley’s traditions and heritage. Directed by renowned Kashmiri filmmaker Ali Emran and produced by Mrs. Yaqout Mushtaq, the film is an earnest tribute to Baand-e-Pather—the centuries-old folk theatre art form that has been the beating heart of Kashmir’s collective storytelling.

At its core, Baand is not merely a film but a soulful journey into the lives of Kashmir’s folk artists, the baands, who have carried forward this vibrant tradition despite facing immense challenges in the modern age. Through a powerful narrative, the film sheds light on the struggles of these artists as they negotiate the pressures of contemporary society, cultural erosion, and survival in an economy that often sidelines traditional art.

What makes Baand truly exceptional is its authenticity and minimalism—featuring stellar performances by the original baands of Kashmir, the film offers audiences an intimate glimpse into the world of these performers, their art, and their resilience. Coupled with stirring visuals and music that flows with the rhythm of the Kashmiri soul, the film promises to be both a cultural revival and a cinematic revelation.

The music of Baand forms its heartbeat, weaving together folk melodies with modern sensibilities to create an atmosphere that is at once nostalgic and fresh. Each sequence resonates with Kashmir’s spirit of resilience, hope, and artistry.

One of the songs of the feature film is set to be released on 15th September 2025 and the film is scheduled to be released in cinemas soon.

With Ali Emran’s signature cinematic style—marked by philosophical depth, emotional resonance, and cultural authenticity—Baand is set to emerge as a landmark in Kashmiri cinema. For the first time, Kashmiri audiences will see their own folk theatre immortalized on the silver screen, not as a relic of the past, but as a living, breathing testament to their identity.

As the curtains rise on Baand, it is not just a film being unveiled, but a part of Kashmir’s cultural heritage being celebrated, preserved, and given new life for generations to come.
