Srinagar, July 20: The tranquil shores of Dal Lake echoed with cheers and the rhythmic hum of bicycle wheels as hundreds of cycling enthusiasts participated in the annual ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ cyclothon on Sunday. The event, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police, turned the iconic Boulevard Road into a vibrant track of fitness and unity.
Now a celebrated tradition, the cyclothon attracted participants from all walks of life, ranging in age from 10 to 60. Cyclists pedaled along the scenic route encircling Dal Lake, enjoying both the natural beauty and the spirit of the event.
The initiative aimed to promote healthy living, fitness awareness, and positive community engagement. This year’s event also underscored the importance of inclusive participation, as specially-abled men and women took part with enthusiasm.
Speaking to the media, Additional Director General of the J&K Armed Police, Anand Jain, said,
“Cycle Through Paradise is our yearly fixture. Every year, J&K Police organises this cycle race. People aged between 5 and 60 years from all sections of society participate. This sends a strong message about the importance of maintaining fitness and the need for youth to direct their energy toward nation-building.”
He added,
“Specially-abled participants joined in large numbers with great enthusiasm. This also serves as a message to the youth to stay away from drugs, improve themselves, and contribute positively to the nation.”
In anticipation of the event, Srinagar Traffic Police issued an advisory closing Boulevard Road from Lalit Ghat (Police Golf Course) to Harwan via Shalimar, and from Lalit Ghat to Pandach via Zakoora to vehicular movement between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM to ensure the safety of cyclists.
The cyclothon follows the ‘Pedal for Peace’ event held on July 15 by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, which also witnessed enthusiastic participation. Both events are part of broader efforts to foster peace, youth empowerment, and a healthy lifestyle across the region. Kashmir Pen
