Srinagar, Dec 22 : The counting of elections for the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir is going on, in the initial trend, the Gupkar Alliance (PAGD) is ahead of the BJP. In the Jammu division, the Bharatiya Janata Party dominates, on the other hand, for the first time the lotus is seen in some seats in the Kashmir Valley. BJP has won three seats in Kashmir valley.
BJP candidate Aijaz Hussain has won from Khonmoh-II constituency in Balhama area of Srinagar. The BJP candidate has also won in Tulail seat and Pulwama in Kashmir. BJP is leading in some seats, while the votes of party candidates in many other seats are encouraging. The success of the BJP in the elections held for the first time after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir is considered to be very important.
BJP candidate Aijaz, who won from Balhama seat in Srinagar, is also the national vice president in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. After winning the election, he said, “We fought against the Gupakar coalition and won from Balhama seat in Srinagar today.” I congratulate the people and security forces of Jammu and Kashmir. “BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said on the results,” BJP has opened an account in Kashmir Valley with the victory of Aijaz Hussain. We are leading many more seats in the valley. It shows that the people of Kashmir Valley want development. ”
There are 2178 candidates in the fray for DDC elections. Eight phase elections were held for 280 seats of DDC. The 20 districts of the union territory each have 14 seats. The DDC election is seen as a contest between the BJP and other political parties in the region. This is the first election in Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 was repealed in August last year. The first phase of voting was held on 28 November and the eighth and last phase was held on 19 December. In all, 51 percent of the 57 lakh eligible voters exercised their franchise in these peacefully concluded elections.
Seven political parties of Kashmir-centric mainstream had secretly contested under the banner of the Manifesto Alliance (PAGD). These parties also include the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party. Initially the Congress was also a part of the PAGD, but later it distanced itself from the alliance as the BJP targeted the opposition parties by calling them “secretly gangs”. In the last seven phases, the Congress alone contested but it is believed that it had agreed with the PAGD
