A few days back I travelled from Srinagar to Pattan and found National Highway in excellent condition barring certain sore spots which need to be treated to ensure smooth traffic of the speedy vehicles. Same is the case with Dr. Alijan Road, where there is a longstanding sore spot between Ali Masjid and Saidpora bridge. This too calls for a round the clock restoration/repairs being a vital connection to the SKIMS for transporting patients in ambulances etc. Again while travelling in the internal roads of the area between Dr.Alijan road and KZP road and the road from Kathi Darwaza to Hawal around the foothill of Hariparbat the roads are found in shambles and result in to the damages to the passing vehicles. During earlier days frequent inspections were carried out by the concerned engineers to ensure timely treatment of potholes, ruts and undulations. There used to be a maintenance gang for temporary restoration and the concerned staff would be vigilant being answerable to higher ups. Now it appears that the work culture has changed and non-availability of funds is made as an excuse, although it is reported that Annual repair (AR) and special repair (SR) funds are allocated every year for the upkeep of roads. On the one hand we hear about the coming up of SMART CITY but on ground the picture is different. It is hoped that Hon’ble LG will direct the concerned to come up to the expectations of the people.
