Special strategies needed to be devised for exploring the full potential for integrated farming:Director Agriculture
Director Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today inaugurated a Sprinkler Irrigation / Drip Irrigation System at Dadina Budgam commissioned under Capex 2021-22.
On the occasion, Director Agriculture Kashmir said that every effort is being made to promote integrated model of farming and in this behalf today’s visit to the field of Mr. Gh Mustafa is a step towards that endeavor. He further added that the field situated at Dadina Budgam was abandoned Brick Kiln which has been reclaimed under National Adaptation for Climate Change (NAFCC) program.
Director Agriculture while interacting with progressive farmers of the village highlighted various important features of drip/ Sprinkler irrigation system. He said the drip irrigation system is a type of micro irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients. Chowdhary Iqbal said that drip irrigation focuses on enhancing water use efficiency at farm level.
Chowdhary Iqbal directed the Chief Agriculture Officer to mobilize the field functionaries of the district to educate the farmers regarding the irrigation system and other farmer friendly schemes. Iqbal asked the officers to adopt modern technologies in vegetable production. He further added that special strategies are needed to be devised to explore the potential for integrated farming to change overall economic scenario of the farming community.
Director Agriculture Kashmir appreciated and applauded the role and untiring efforts of all the Agriculture Officers and staff towards doubling the farmer’s income.
Later Director Agriculture took a detailed meeting with the representatives of the LULU group. He said that the department is continuously exploring new market opportunities for increasing value of farmers and growers produce.
Director was accompanied by Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam Tafazal Hussain Madni, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer Budgam Shabir Ahmad, other Senior Officers of the district and field functionaries.
