Waheed Jeelani , Artist and cultural activist has resigned from National Conference and disassociated himself from politics “having dissociated myself from politics, for past almost a year now, want to make it clear that my only motive of joining politics was to serve my people through a stronger platform, in hopes of creating a political voice from our cultural landscape that would serve the needs of the people of artist community, going through extreme turbulent times .
However later I, realized that an active creative professional artist or activist, could contribute more independently. I continued, and shall continue in future too with my humble efforts to serve my art culture and artists of my region.
Being a representative for our culture, and the sole purpose of me joining, in the first place was to work towards the upliftment of our art, culture and artists, which I would like to pursue in any case.
The fact is that this is not the job that I had signed up for. I signed up for this job in order to meet the needs of my community people which actually could not happen during the past course of time due to one or another reason.
Therefore for the reasons stated above, I am hereby formally dissociating myself from politics and the party I had joined, wish everyone and my former colleagues, all the best in future and also hope that they can help, change and serve our people in a better,said Waheed Jeelani in a statement to Kashmir pen.
