The two-day district Wushu championship came to a thrilling conclusion here today. The championship showcasing the remarkable skills and talent of young athletes in the region witnessed tremendous response from various schools and clubs with as many as five hundred-plus participants featuring in the event.
The event organized by the District Wushu Association Srinagar in collaboration with J&K Sports Council was hosted at Sheri Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex Srinagar. The athletes from twenty different schools and clubs gathered to compete in various Wushu categories with participants displaying exceptional discipline, strength, and agility, leaving the spectators awe-inspired throughout the event.
The Divisional Sports Officer, Kashmir Muzaffar Hussain Wani was chief guest on the occasion. He was flanked by Hilal Ahamad and Muhammad Iqbal along with Kamal Kishore international Wushu player, Aijaz Hassan, Rameez Ahmad Dar, Umer, Atul, and Irfan Ahmad Wani the organising secretary of the event.
While speaking on the occasion, Muzaffar Hussain said that this championship symbolizes the talent of the youth of the region, adding that J&K Sports Council is committed to the encouragement and promotion of sports in the district
The chief guest said that the J&K Sports Council is determined to continue organizing such events to harness the potential of young athletes and promote the spirit of sportsmanship, perseverance, and dedication towards the cause of making J&K the powerhouse of sports in the country. “We believe that these championships not only showcase their athletic prowess but also instill valuable life skills like discipline, hard work, and teamwork”, Muzaffar added.
The Indoor Wushu Academy was declared the overall winner of the event followed by Al-Noor Model School Safakadal as runner while Arise International Academy Chek-i-Mujgund and Crescent Higher Secondary School Natipora bagged 2nd runner-up jointly.
The Joint Secretary of Wushu Association J&K, Mohammad Maqsood Rather presented a vote of thanks.
Speaking on the occasion, he extended gratitude to the Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull for her unwavering support and for providing all the necessary resources to ensure the success of this championship besides her professional conduct and her commitment to the upliftment of youth in the region.
While appreciating Kuldeep Handoo, National Chief Coach for unconditional support and guidance, Maqsood said that he has been instrumental in the development and rise of Wushu in J&K.
