Farooq Nazki, known for his literary contributions and having won the Sahitya Akademi Award, Nazki left for heavenly abode at a hospital in Katra. He was 83. He had been grappling with various health issues, including lung and kidney complications, for the past four years.Nazki held the position of Director at Doordarshan and AIR Srinagar from 1986 to 1997. He was a prolific writer and served as the Editor of “Daily Mazdoor” in 1960. The daily was a reflection of those times taking up the issues of labour class. In 2000, he retired from government service.
Nazki was in charge of several significant positions in All India Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan and in 1995, Nazki was awarded the Sahitya Akademi for his poetry book “Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas”. He had also served as the media advisor to two chief ministers of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.

Esteemed Farooq Nazki Sahab left for a heavenly abode. It is a great loss to me in person. He was legendary in the field of art and literature. I pray to Allah to grant him the highest place in Jannat. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family…. GM Wani
The former Director Doordarshan, a great scholar, a visionary, a wonderful human being, and above all, my mentor, Jenab Farooq Nazki Sahab is no longer with us physically, but his teachings will remain with me always….Mushtaq Ali Ahmad Khan
To me, it is a big loss to the entire art fraternity. He has always inspired those who were willing to listen to him. I personally believe that we have lost a legend…. Mushtaq Bala
Great loss to our cultural ethos. May almighty Allah shower his blessings on his grave. I have so much to say, but his untimely loss has frozen me for the reason that I had to take much from him as a guide. But then one cannot deny reality…. Ayash Arif
His loss is so collosal that no one fills it. He was a creative, innovative, and dedicated broadcaster. I worked with him on many projects. He was a dear family friend to me and my husband, Mr. Najmus Saqib, who was a great friend of Farooq Naziki Ji…Rama Panday
Such a great loss. I’ve lost a very dear elder friend; he was such a wonderful person… Ravinder Kaul
Today, Kashmir lost a true icon. A man of versatile talents, his contribution to broadcasting and literature has been noteworthy. I had a very, very close relationship with him. During the period I was in Srinagar, we used to spend a lot of time exclusively together. Besides being an eminent broadcaster, he was a great orator, full of life and humor, and a great negotiator. I used to always tell him that he would be better off as a diplomat. Though there was a lot of age difference between us, we bonded like very close friends. I will miss him, and today I feel that I have really lost a slice of myself. May he rest in peace… Ashok Jailkhani
Farook Nazki was a very respectable broadcaster, poet, and personality with several enchanting layers and colors. He was an adored household name amid the native diaspora. Besides, a person of his statesmanly sta

ture, heartfelt humanism, inclusiveness, and openness can hardly be traced around nowadays. May the Master guide his soul to eternal divine composure…. Jugal Kaul
We are all sad to have lost Farooq Naziki Sahib. He was ailing for some time, and lately we all looked at him in despair. After his demise, the whole broadcasting community is experiencing waves of intense and very difficult emotions, ranging from profound sadness to shock and emptiness. Farooq Sahib loved to love his colleagues, irrespective of their caste, color, colour or religion. Countless tributes may pour in,but words can never convey the feelings of all broadcasters and litterateurs who unquestioningly accepted and & honoured Naziki Sahib’s genius. His intellectual radiance did not desert him until his last days. He was always ahead of his time. His passing away has created a vacuum in the literary and broadcasting fraternity. While we all condole his death, we also pray for peace of his soul, and may he be dwelt in Jannat-ul-Firdous…. Mir Mushtaq.
A most unfortunate period was the demise of Jinab Farooq Nazki. The literary and broadcasting school of Kashmir has lost its great mentor. May his soul rest in peace…. Kamal Razdan
I don’t have words to express my grief over the demise of this genius and icon in its true sense….Faiyaz Dilbar
A great loss. We lost the man who introduced the golden period of Doordarshan to all of us. A visionary. A poet and a broadcaster…. Kusum Tikoo

I am saddened to know about the sad demise of a legend and ace broadcaster, Shri Farooq Nazki. May God grant eternal peace to his noble soul……Ashok Bhan
My heartfelt condolences, sympathies, and prayers are with the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, nears, and dears. It is extremely sad and painful news. I still remember his kind words about the death of my father when he said I should have left this world first in place of Ashraf. May Allah swt reward him with the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdose. You were such a kind-hearted person, full of love and affection, that I will remember you forever. I had called him some months before to inquire about his health; his only reply was that this disease is not getting controlled, so let it be. I’m really short on words to say how great he was. His demise has created a big vacuum in the Littarray class….. Sahil Iqbal.
There are no words to express the demise of this great personality in Kashmir. His contribution as a writer will always be remembered. His shining personality will live on in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace….Ajay Pandita
You have been a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light. We will miss your wisdom and presence. Rest in eternal peace. Our condolences to the entire Nazki family, particularly Rabiya Nazki, Roohi Nazki, and Ayaz Rasool Nazki…. Waheed Jeelani

A legend, he was so well read, he had such confidence, he was so knowledgeable, he knew his job so well, he was such a wonderful speaker, he was such a wonderful programmer, he was such a lovely person, and he lived a king’s life. May his noble soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to his entire bereaved family, friends, and colleagues…. Qayoom Wadera
Bye-bye, Farooq Nazki. A ray of hope for our composite culture. You were one of millions. Now that you are in a better place, rest in eternal peace there, in your heavenly abode…… Jaya Parimu
Ah! Farooq Nazki. A great friend with humility and human qualities—an ace poet, a superb broadcaster, a playwright, a producer-director with superb imagination—one can say about him that he was talent incarnate. Besides Roohi, Rubi, and Naeem Akhtar Iqbal Nazki Ayaz Rasool Nazki Tassi Syed and all members of his family, I extend my condolences to my friend Shabir Mujahid, who looks at his demise as a personal loss…Zahid G. Muhammad
May O Allah! Forgive him and have mercy on him. Grant him ease and respite. Make his resting place a noble one and facilitate his entry. Wash him with the most pure and clean water, snow, and hail. Purify him from sins as a ‘white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him, in exchange, a home better than his home and a family better than his family. I pray Allah to grant him entrance to Paradise…. Shafat Ahmad Qazi
His literary and social life will be poorer with his death. Leave aside his being a poet, a writer, a broadcaster, and an administrator. These are there. But above all these things, he was Farooq Nazki. Farooq Nazki represents our multicolored social life. He represents our composite culture. He would give meaning to love and friendship. You remember how he would talk. He was Shahanshah e Guftagoo. You remember how he would mingle with people? You have seen him closely… Abdul Wahid
Heartfelt condolences. This is a great loss. He was a unique human being—warm, affectionate, and full of life. I will always miss him. Peace be upon his soul. He will surely get a high place in Jannat….. Avtar Mota

Ahh, Farooq Sahab! Your leaving has created a vacuum in the lives of people who came across you on their journey, not to mention the loss to literature, culture, and the ethnic fabric of your land. A Void in Mass Communication and Broadcasting. A star vanished off the horizon….. Shahzadi Simon He will be remembered for his pre-eminent contribution as a poet and as a critic, enriching Kashmiri language and literature profoundly. With his memorable and postmodern poetry, he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of people. Today, the literary world of Kashmir has suffered a great loss : said Amin Bhat.
Iconic, Farooq Nazki is no more. May Allah grant peace to the departed soul. Such a great loss to the literary world of J&K and the subcontinent as a whole. For Wordsworth, poetry is “a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings.” For Keats, “it should strike a reader as a wording of his own,” and again, “its touches of beauty should never be half way, thereby making the reader breathless.” In this context, as a student of English literature and seeing the poetry of Farooq Nazki sb, one has but to admit what a great poet he was. When I once read the verse “Sham gow zoni trow gashus bar” (Tas to prazliv iztirab achan) to my late uncle Saifi Sopori, “he asked me to read it again and sighed “Oh, what an imagery.” He was a poet beyond doubt. Rest in peace, Nazki Sahib……Showkat Shafi
Amid a gray atmosphere and tears rolling down the eyes of mourners, who include friends, colleagues, well-wishers, and relatives, a painful farewell was given to the deceased soul of Farooq Nazki, a veteran poet, broadcaster, programmer par excellence, and a noble human being…..Farooq Fayaz Bhat
A great loss to Kashmir’s poetic, literary, and broadcasting field …Muzzafar Shah, ANC
Huge loss. A great legend has left for a heavenly abode. Jinab Farooq Nazki sahab is a great personality with multifaceted capabilities in the fields of art, culture, and literature. His leaving has created a big vacuum in the fraternities he belonged to. May Allah bestow rest on his soul and the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdos. Aameen…. Ghulam Mohammed Wani
Today, we bid farewell to a true legend, Farooq Nazki Shb. He touched the lives of many, including mine. I will forever cherish the memories of his kindness and love. He was a fatherly figure to my late father and has always treated me like his own grandchild. When my dad breathed, his last great Nazki Shb said something in my ear, which is a clear example of his greatness and the affectionate bond he shared with Dr. Aziz Hajini Shb. I can still hear his voice echoing in my heart as he asks why fate didn’t choose him instead. Rest in peace. Your words and warmth will always be remembered….Azhar Hajani
‘Mujhe Marne Se Dar Nai Lagta, Par Jo Mujh Pa Merte Hain Unka Kya Hoga’. The last couplet of Farooq Nazki, a miracle poet, before leaving for his Heavenly Abode today…. Sajad Bazaz
A legend, he was so well read, he had such confidence, he was so knowledgeable, he knew his job so well, he was such a wonderful speaker, he was such a wonderful programmer, he was such a lovely person, and he lived a king’s life. May his noble soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to his entire bereaved family, friends, and colleagues… Qayoom Wadera
I found him such an inspiring man who would, for the last five years, ask me to recite my English Ghazals. He would enjoy listening to me and often asked me to try my hand at writing in Kashmiri. His quality advice has nursed my English Ghazals. He would enjoy listening to me and often asked me to try my hand at writing in Kashmiri. His quality advice has nursed my English ghazals, and we would share quality time, but for one year this connection got hampered due to his illness. Although he is not with us today, his contribution will always keep him alive. I remember when he gifted his anthology ‘Sate Baran’, he made me translate a poem on the same day. May Allah grant peace to his soul. Mushtaque B Barq.
