Srinagar, – The Eco-Tourismy Society of Kashmir has urged the government to allocate a dedicated budget for the promotion of responsible tourism and the marketing of eco-tourism in the region. The request comes as tourist arrivals in Kashmir continue to rise, highlighting the need for sustainable tourism practices to preserve the valley’s fragile ecosystem.

Mohammed Shafi Wangnoo, Convenor of the Eco-Tourism Society of Kashmir, emphasized the importance of structured funding to support eco-friendly initiatives. “Kashmir’s natural beauty is its biggest asset, and we must ensure that tourism develops in a way that protects our environment rather than harming it. A dedicated budget will help in raising awareness, implementing sustainable tourism practices, and positioning Kashmir as a responsible tourism destination,” he said.
The society has proposed that the government focus on:
• Eco-Tourism Circuits: Developing and promoting offbeat destinations with minimal environmental impact.
• Sustainable Infrastructure: Supporting eco-friendly lodges, waste management systems, and green transport options.
• Community-Based Tourism: Encouraging local participation in tourism to create livelihoods while maintaining ecological balance.
• Digital Marketing & Awareness Campaigns: Positioning Kashmir as a leading eco-tourism destination to attract responsible travelers.
• Capacity-Building Programs: Training locals in eco-tourism best practices to enhance visitor experiences.
Wangnoo further stressed the need for government collaboration with local communities, conservation groups, and tourism stakeholders to implement these initiatives effectively.
With the global travel industry shifting toward sustainable and responsible tourism, the Eco-Tourism Society believes that a well-planned eco-tourism strategy, backed by proper funding, can secure a sustainable future for Kashmir’s tourism sector while preserving its natural and cultural heritage.
