SKICC Srinagar hosts landmark summit on NEP 2020, organized by DSEK in collaboration with Times of India and SABAR Education
Innovation from the Grass root
The grandeur of the Education Summit 2025, held at the iconic SKICC Srinagar, was elevated by the spirit of innovation and inclusion inspired by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Organized by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in association with The Times of India and SABAR Education Foundation, the summit brought together educators, thinkers, and students from across Jammu & Kashmir.
Among the standout moments of the event was the invitation and participation of Government Higher Secondary School Dangiwatcha, that turned heads with a brilliant student-led innovation — the “Frost Guard”
The Frost Guard is an ingenious, locally-relevant solution designed to prevent water pipelines from freezing during harsh winter months, a persistent problem in the high-altitude areas of North Kashmir.
The concept was developed and presented by Mohammad Idrees and Tammem Manzoor, two promising students of HSS Dangiwatcha, under the visionary mentorship of Mr. Tajamul Naseem.
Crafted with simplicity and functionality, the Frost Guard prototype combines thermal insulation and controlled heating mechanisms to keep pipelines operational, ensuring uninterrupted water supply to households and institutions during sub-zero temperatures.
This innovation is a reflection of NEP 2020’s emphasis on experiential learning, critical thinking, and context-based problem-solving.
The brilliance of the Frost Guard caught the attention of Shri Omar Abdullah, who was among the keynote dignitaries at the event. Visibly impressed, Shri Abdullah lauded the students of HSS Dangiwatcha for their creativity and scientific temperament.
“The ‘Frost Guard’ is more than a project — it is a symbol of how education can solve real-world problems. I am deeply moved to see such innovative thinking coming from the youth of our remotest regions.”
The recognition of the Frost Guard idea was one of the most talked-about highlights of the summit, with many dignitaries calling it a model example of how classroom learning can be translated into community-driven innovation.
