Anantnag, 07, 2022: On Celebrating December 2022 as a month of Mathematics, an awareness-cum-outreach programme kick started on Wednesday here at Higher Secondary school, Srigufwara, Anantnag under the theme ” Popularisation of Mathematics at Secondary and Higher Secondary schools of Kashmir Division”. It is first time in the history of Anantnag Schools that University of Kashmir has started such programmes to connect Higher Education with School Education.
The month long campaign is organised by Mathematics Department of Kashmir University’s South Campus, Anantnag in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
The noble initiative is aimed at finding the pitfall of students response towards the mathematics at Secondary/Senior secondary School level. A number of programmes are to be conducted in the senior and secondary schools across the length and breadth of the Kashmir Division thereby helping the students in dispelling their mathematical phobia.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zainapora, Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Lone graced the occasion as Chief Guest. While speaking on the occasion,. he termed that being a mathematics student, it has given confidence to excel in life and to undertake the reasoning at Kashmir Administrative Services and other competative examinations. He added that mathematics is contributing in every field of life viz, medicine, statistics, sports, engineering, simulations and modelling.
Director South campus, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday, who was a guest of honour of the event, delivered a keynote address on ” Role of an Individual in Mathematics and aprising students of School education about the importance of mathematics” He underscored the role of mathematicians in tackling the problems of students at large. He said that higher education needs to be connected with school education and South campus has taken an initative in this direction. He further said that secondary and senior secondary students are to be sensitised about the importance of mathematics in order to promote mathematics subject. Dr. Khanday outlined the role of students in popularizing the mathematics at secondary and senior secondary school level thereby pushing them to take up mathematics for their greater good in future pursuits of life and academics.
