Kargil, Mar 22 : Celebrating Eid with a historic double triumph, two athletes from Ladakh have clinched gold medals at separate All India Inter-University Taekwondo Championships, bringing fresh glory to the Union Territory.
International taekwondo player Shahnaz Parveen secured the top spot at the championship held in Odisha from March 16 to 20, while Sonam Chospal matched her feat with a gold at the event hosted by DAV University in Jalandhar. Both sportspersons represent Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Haryana.
Ladakh Taekwondo Association General Secretary Anayat Ali Shotopa termed the victories a “special Eid gift” for the region.
“We are extremely proud of Shahnaz and Sonam. Winning these gold medals on Eid is a moment of great joy for Ladakh. Their consistent performance since 2021 reflects the discipline and determination of our youth,” Shotopa told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
He also thanked MDU coach Ashoka for his dedicated support, adding that the sports quota opportunities have strengthened the bond between Ladakh and Haryana in promoting taekwondo.
The Ladakh Taekwondo Association has extended its congratulations to both athletes for their exceptional achievements. (KNS)
