Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday expressed concern over the supply of murky portable water to various hamlets in north Kashmir areas, urging the administration to ensure the quality of portable drinking water being supplied to consumers.

In a joint statement NC Provincial Secretary Showkat Mir, north zone vice president Dr Sajjad Uri and joint secretary Mohammad Yaqoob Wani said, “Its really unfortunate that people in Hakwara, Sangrama, Kalantara, and Wagoora hamlets of Sangrama are being supplied with murky and dirty drinking water from Shakwara filtration plant. Needless to say the murky and the contaminated water, is bound to be a carrier of waterborne diseases thereby leading to public health issues in the entire area consisting of over seven hamlets.”

They said the situation is no different in various other hamlets of central and north Kashmir districts, where most people have no access to safe and portable drinking water. “Its therefore expected of the concerned department to ensure presence of required staff at such filtration plants. People deserve to get safe and clean drinking water.”

Meanwhile in a separate statement party’s Provincial Secretary Advocate Showkat Ahmad Mir; Central Zone President Ali Muhammad Dar and Women’s wing President Kashmir Sabiya Qadri expressed deep sorrow over the demise of party veteran and former district president Ganderbal Haji Abdul Rahman Mir.

The functionaries described the late leader as an epitome of sacrifice and service saying that the late leader worked for party day in, day out holding the flag of party high during the most turbulent times. The functionaries said that late Mir Sahib will be remembered for his integrity, dedication and modest disposition.

The functionaries while extending condolences to the mournful family, prayed for peace to the soul of deceased and much needed strength to the mournful family on their bereavement.(PTK)
