Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Nitin D Wakankar will now lead the new team of MHA spokespersons.
Almost the entire media team of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was transferred to other government departments on Friday, a week after the official Facebook page of Home Ministry posted a picture of whiskey bottles along with other pictures of NDRF relief works in Bengal during cyclone Amphan. Although, the reason for the reshuffle was not known immediately.
Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Nitin D Wakankar will now lead the new team of MHA spokespersons. Wakankar became the media face of CBI when it was battling negative perceptions post the drift between then CBI Chief Alok Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana.
Wakankar will replace Vasudha Gupta, who now has been transferred to Director General of the fact check unit working under the Press Information Bureau. Both Wakankar and Gupta are DG rank officials.
Wakankar, who’s a 1989 batch IIS officer, was working as DG at the Bureau of Outreach and Communications of the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
After two stints as Deputy Press Secretary with Presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Pratibha Patil, Wakankar also served as spokesperson of the CBI. Other than heading the Mumbai region in various capacities during his career, he has also worked as spokesperson of the Defence Ministry.
The posts of Additional Director General (ADG) and Assistant Director in the media wing of the MHA have now been offered to IIS officers Rajkumar and Amandeep Yadav. ( HW News )
