Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed deep anguish over the death of a 25 year old pregnant Lady from Salia Nowpura and demanded expediting the probe and take it to logical conclusion.

Party’s senior leader Sakina Itoo and District President Anantnag Altaf Kaloo in a joint statement extended sympathies to the kith and kin of the deceased. The leaders said the erring medicos and concerned doctors   in this case cannot be isolated; the incident they said is reflective of the state of affairs in the rural hospitals. “Ever since the onset COVID-19 the state of affairs in rural maternity hospitals and other primary health care centers across the valley has deteriorated. There are other instances wherein patients have suffered immensely because of the acute dearth of infrastructure and manpower in the health department in the entire south Kashmir.

They said every life is precious and that responsibility should be fixed to set precedence, they said while demanding the removal of loopholes in the healthcare system. It goes without saying that the hospitals are overburdened and witnessing huge rush but in this case it is a maternity hospital; therefore linking the unfortunate death to the overburdening of hospitals is bereft of any rationale.

“Not just that the hapless family of the deceased was not even provided with an ambulance to ferry the body of their loved one to her native village.  It seems to be a tip of ice berg, a thorough inquiry into the incident will take all factors into consideration fix the responsibility. We hope that the government addresses this issue on priority basis. The erring official and medical staff responsible for this gaffe should be dealt with an iron fist.”

The leaders also thanked the Principal Distrct sessions judge for taking suo moto cognizance of the death of two pregnant women in Anantnag.” We express our gratitude to the judiciary for taking cognizance of the heart wrenching incidents. We are hopeful that the inquiry into the matter will give justice to the affected families and the victims as well.”

The party functionaries prayed for repose to the soul of deceased and strength to the grief stricken family to bear the loss.
