Jammu, Jan 11 : The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case against a man for allegedly cheating two individuals by issuing fake appointment letters purportedly in the name of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, officials said.

According to the Crime Branch as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the accused, identified as Mohd Tahir of Banola, Poonch, is alleged to have lured the victims with false promises of employment and collected large sums of money from them. A formal case has been registered after preliminary verification established the allegations to be prima facie true.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch Jammu, Sanjay Parihar said that the first complainant came in contact with the accused during a train journey from Jammu to Roorkee. The acquaintance later developed into familiarity, which the accused allegedly exploited by assuring the complainant of a job in the High Court. Trusting the assurance, the victim reportedly paid Rs 2 lakh and was handed over an appointment letter, which later turned out to be forged.

In another instance, the accused allegedly deceived a second complainant, known to him for a long time. Initially, he is said to have taken Rs 2 lakh under the pretext of his wife’s medical treatment. Later, he allegedly promised to arrange a High Court job for the complainant’s son, collected documents, and provided a fake appointment order.
