KASHMIR PEN REPORT
📍 Srinagar | July 20, 2025

In a momentous cinematic tribute to spiritual legacy, the Kashmiri-language biopic “Sarvavyapak Bhagwaan Gopinath” premiered to a jam-packed audience at INOX Cinema, Srinagar, on Sunday, July 20. The film was widely appreciated for its spiritual depth, cultural authenticity, and emotionally resonant portrayal of Bhagwaan Gopinathji’s life and teachings.

The special screening witnessed the presence of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, veteran filmmaker Mushtaq Bala, senior artist G.M. Wani, music composer Raja Bilal, and the film’s director and producer. Notably, several members of the audience had to return due to the venue reaching full capacity—reflecting the tremendous local interest in the spiritual film.

A Cinematic Offering in the Mother Tongue

Narrated entirely in Kashmiri, the film highlights Bhagwaan Gopinathji’s spiritual journey—from his youthful detachment and inner awakening in Srinagar to his silent teachings and divine presence that continue to inspire generations. The film’s script is based on the biography penned by S.N. Fotedar, with dialogues and narration developed by Padmashri Pran Kishore Kaul, who also directed the biopic.

The use of the Kashmiri language struck a chord with audiences, many of whom viewed it as a powerful affirmation of cultural identity and devotional tradition. As one reviewer noted, “This was more than a film—it was a reaffirmation that Kashmir lives on in our language and devotion.”

Authentic Performances and Spiritual Visuals

The cast, comprised largely of first-time actors including a young lead from Jagti, Jammu, received praise for their heartfelt and raw performances. The cinematography, under Avinash Satoskar and co-director Arun Mavanoor, captured the serene backdrops of Kashmir’s landscapes and sacred sites with meditative poise.

Adding to the spiritual atmosphere was a compelling musical score featuring compositions by Santoor maestro Abhay Rustom Sopori, along with Raja Bilal, Waheed Jheelani, and Dilip Langoo. The film includes soul-stirring Kashmiri devotional leelas and Sufi-inspired pieces that echo the mysticism of Bhagwaan Gopinathji’s teachings.

Reception and Future Screenings

The response at the Srinagar premiere follows successful earlier screenings in Jammu and Pune, where the film was equally well-received by both displaced Kashmiri Pandit communities and spiritual seekers.

Organizers, including Sanjay Kaul, who extended the invitation, expressed gratitude to the community for embracing the film so warmly. Plans are underway for additional screenings to meet public demand.
