Five persons lost their lives, and two others sustained critical injuries in a tragic accident involving a Scorpio and a tipper at Shilikchey area of Kargil district on Tuesday.

According to official sources, the Scorpio (bearing registration number UP79A/1150) and the tipper (JK02AD/5118) collided head-on, causing both vehicles to plunge into a deep gorge.

Police Station Kargil swiftly responded to the incident, initiating a rescue operation. All the victims were rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared five individuals dead. The other two victims remain in critical condition.

Sources revealed that three of the deceased were locals, while the remaining two were non-locals.

The Kargil Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
