Five drug peddlers held in Handwara and Awantipora

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 05 drug peddlers in Handwara & Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Police spokesperson said that a police party of Police Station Vilgam at a checkpoint established at Lilam Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Saleem Khan son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Manzgam. During search, 01 Kg of Charas was recovered from his possession. He was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Meanwhile in Awantipora, a Police party of Police Post Toll Plaza Chersoo, at a checkpoint established on NHW Chersoo, arrested four drug peddlers identified as Tawseef Ahmad Parray son of Gh Hassan Parray resident of Pujtang Sangam, Tariq Ahmad Kutoo son of Gh Nabi Kutoo resident of Tailbal Nishat Srinagar, Sujha Saleem son of Bashir Ahmad Tarbie resident of Devar Tral and Muzamil Hussain Teli son of Gh Hassan Teli resident of Habbak Srinagar.

During search, 2.45 Kgs of Poppy Straw, 2.5 grams of Brown Sugar and 06 grams of Charas were recovered from their possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
