SRINAGAR 06 Nov : The Department of Posts has extended the working hours of the Floating Post Office at Nehru Park on Dal Lake in Srinagar, allowing it to remain open from 9 am to 9 pm daily.

The decision follows the public response to the extension of working hours at Lal Chowk Head Post Office, which is also operating from 9 am to 9 pm, the department said in an official statement.

Chief Postmaster General, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Col Sagar Hanuman Singh, accompanied by Director Postal Services Prateek and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division, Adam Mohi U Din, visited the Floating Post Office to review its facilities and interact with customers, tourists and members of the public.

The department said the extended timings were introduced in view of the considerable footfall at Nehru Park and the demand for postal services beyond regular office hours.

Col Sagar Hanuman Singh said the initiative was aimed at making postal services more convenient for tourists, local residents and other customers, reiterating the department’s commitment to improving accessibility and service delivery.

Director Postal Services Prateek said the Floating Post Office was not only an important postal facility but also a distinctive tourist attraction in Kashmir. He said the extended timings would enable local residents, tourists, houseboat operators and other visitors to access postal services at more convenient hours.

Adam Mohi U Din said the response to the extended working hours at Lal Chowk Head Post Office had encouraged the department to consider similar measures elsewhere. He added that the possibility of extending working hours at more post offices in the region was also being explored.
