The J&K government on Tuesday informed the Lower House that an amount of Rs 12.38 crore was paid annually by “defence establishment” as rent against the land occupied by them.

It was revealed in a written reply by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is holding portfolio of Home department in the state, to a query raised by MLA Shopian Muhammad Yousuf Bhat.

As per the reply, forces were paying an amount of Rs 4.5 lacs in Srinagar, Rs 1.19 crore in Budgam and 3.06 crore in Baramulla as rent against private land per annum.

Also, an amount of Rs 40.89 crores was paid annually in Bandipora, Rs 2.46 crore in Pulwama and Rs 1.24 crore in Anantnag.

“Rs 3.59 lacs are paid in Kulgam, Rs 2.48 crore in Kupwara and Rs 18.79 was paid by forces in Ganderbal per annum as rent against private land,”  CM Mehbooba said in her written reply.

She said that Rs 52801 was paid in Shopian, Rs 41.04 lacs in Leh and Rs 83.20 lacs were paid per annum by army in Kargil district.
