Government forces on Saturday resorted to aerial firing and tergas shelling to break up protests in Anantnag town of south Kashmir.
Reports said that forces lobbed shells and fired in air to chase away protesters in Reshi Bazar and Mattan Adda areas.
Earlier, youth staged protests agaisnt alleged excesses of police in the area.
Meanwhile, traders who have staged a sit-in in Reshi Bazar have warned of an indefinite strike.
They are demanding the transfer of SHO Sadder Police Station who they alleged was harassing the traders and locals.
