Srinagar, July 14: In a major step to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Pir Panjal range, the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department has imposed an immediate ban on camping, tent pitching, off-roading, bonfires and littering at four popular tourist destinations—Doodhpathri, Yousmarg, Tosamaidan and Hajjin-Brenwar.

The department has also announced a series of eco-conservation measures, including the establishment of anti-polythene checkpoints, installation of eco-friendly dustbins, and weekly cleanliness drives every Wednesday to maintain the pristine environment of these tourist sites.

Officials said strict legal action will be taken against violators under the Jammu and Kashmir Plastic Act, 2007. The initiative aims to safeguard biodiversity, reduce environmental degradation, and promote responsible and sustainable tourism across the Pir Panjal region.

The Forest Department has urged visitors, tour operators and local stakeholders to cooperate in preserving Kashmir’s natural heritage for future generations.
