Four more persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the union territory to 18.

“4 more positive cases in Kashmir; all from Srinagar district – 2 have travel history abroad; the other 2 have travel history outside J&K as part of religious congregation,” tweeted government spokesman Rohit Kansal.

On Thursday, three persons, including two minors, tested positive for the virus.

The children tested positive for COVID19 at Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar. The siblings are admitted at JLNM Hospital, a designated COVID19 hospital in Srinagar.

Dr Sumir Mattoo, director health services Kashmir said the children had been isolated and their mother equipped with personal protective gear. “They are asymptomatic and will be kept under observation,” he said.

J&K registered its first death due to coronavirus on Thursday when a 67-year-old man who had travelled outside the union territory died in Srinagar. One of the patients who had earlier tested positive for the deadly virus has recovered, said the officials.
