Congregational prayers were allowed at Jamia Masjid in Downtown Srinagar today after five weeks.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who addresses the faithful every Friday, was also released from house detention.

Authorities imposed restrictions in Nowhatta and other areas of Downtown Srinagar during past five Fridays, thus preventing the worshippers from entering the mosque.

“Finally! after 5 weeks of restrictions Friday prayers will be offered at #JamaMasjid, Friday sermon at 12.30, Juma Prayers at 1.30 inshallah,” tweeted Mirwaiz, ahead of the prayers at the historic mosque.
