Srinagar, Sep 19 : Terming Public Safety Act (PSA) a draconian law, Geelani said that those arrested and detained vide this act, is a sheer violation of human values and added that under the garb of this provision, the authorities and police feel free to detain anyone for years on flimsy charges and without providing any evidences.
Geelani said that it is ridiculous that even these authorities while surpassing and neglecting their own rules and regulations, dishonour and neglect the judicial rulings and directives.
While referring to the police and state authorities for their autocratic approach against detainees, Geelani said that they take refuge in a formal court order that ‘’accused is released if not wanted in any other case”” and hence the detainee is charge sheeted repeatedly on fabricated grounds without taking consideration of provisions of justice and discourse of law.
Geelani expressed his deep concern over the increasing lawlessness by citing the example of senior Huriyat leaders including Masarat Asalam Bhat, Asiya Andrabi, Fehmeda Sofi, Ameer Hamza and hundreds of others as those are being repeatedly detained despite their PSA’s being quashed by court of law.
Appealing international human rights organisation for their cognizance, Syed Ali Geelani asked to use their good office for immediate release of all detainees languishing in different jails.
