Meerut, July 3 : Goons in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh targeted a Kashmiri student for being the resident of Valley.
UP is ruled by BJP under Yogi Adityanath and the state has been witnessing a sharp rise in the attacks on minority community.
Reports said that Kashmiri student from Meerut’s Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) was beaten up and robbed of his mobile on Saturday night by three masked men, who attacked him allegedly because he hailed from the Valley.
Daily Times of India quoted Anees Khan, a second semester Zoology student at CCSU as having said, “The hostel mess has been closed for days and I have to go out for food. On Saturday night when I was returning, a masked man approached me and asked my name and my native place. The moment I told my name and that I belong to Kashmir, two other masked men came and started beating me up.”
A complaint was filed by Khan at Medical College police station late on Saturdaynight and a case was registered in the matter on Sunday morning.
“A case has been filed against three unknown men under IPC’s Section 392 (punishment for robbery) and the matter is being investigated. Anees has not mentioned the Kashmiri angle in his complaint, but we are looking into that as well,” sub-inspector Pawan Kumar said.
“Prima facie it looks like an argument between college students which got escalated. Still, all angles are being investigated,” investigating officer Khurshid Alisaid. (CNS)
