Srinagar, June 5,: PDP leader and Pulwama MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government over the delay in making AIIMS Awantipora fully operational, alleging that the administration was more concerned about visits to the institution than addressing pressing healthcare needs.
In a post on X, Para said Jammu and Kashmir was facing a health crisis, with cancer and other serious illnesses claiming lives daily, while AIIMS Awantipora was yet to become fully functional.
The PDP leader alleged that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had not accorded priority to reviewing the progress of the project and claimed that concerns were being raised over the recent visit of former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and local legislators to the AIIMS site.
Para further alleged that AIIMS officials had been summoned and questioned about the visit, instead of being held accountable for delays in operationalising the institution.
“A government backed by 50 MLAs should not be intimidated by a site visit. It should be ashamed that patients are still waiting for world-class healthcare while politics continues to take precedence over people’s lives,” Para said in the post.
He also claimed that AIIMS Awantipora was conceived and initiated during the tenure of former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and urged the government to focus on making the institution fully functional for the benefit of patients.
