Srinagar, Jun 21: Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary has urged the government to take serious note of the surge in the cases related to mental disorders amongst people due to the COVID 19 lockdown and its dreadful impact on people’s daily lives.
Kadfeen said that there are disturbing reports coming to the fore about how the spike in psychological disorders in people are taking shape of an epidemic and if immediate measures aren’t taken, same could prove lethal of the society’s mental wellbeing at large.
He added that Jammu and Kashmir have already been reeling under the duress due to the gags of various kinds imposed upon people post-August 5, last year including the suspension of internet services and that the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID 19 has given rise to the psychological disorders among the public. “Take for example the school going children. It is ironic to find that more than 10 months have passed and kids from Kashmir haven’t been to schools, haven’t met their classmates and haven’t interacted one on one with their teachers. This has given rise to an unprecedented situation and can cause long term psychological problems. The business fraternity and the people associated with the private sector have their own pie of anxieties. The results have subtly begun to come out and can prove apocalyptic,” says Kadfeen.
He added that the government must come up with a comprehensive mechanism to address the psychological crises and seminars, workshops and public awareness camps must be held in order to put a lid over such crises in the offing. Besides that, Kadfeen said, dedicated helplines should be established wherein people can seek psychological support from experts and professionals.
