SRINAGAR 10 Jun : The Government has approved a Rs 15.99 crore Water Supply Scheme for Watergam town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district under the Capex Budget 2026–27, aimed at strengthening drinking water infrastructure and ensuring improved access to safe and reliable potable water for residents.

The project is expected to upgrade the existing water supply network, improve service delivery and address the growing drinking water needs of the town and adjoining areas. Officials said the scheme will help enhance the availability and reliability of water supply, contributing to better public health and living conditions.

Watergam, a prominent municipality and tehsil headquarters in Baramulla district, is widely regarded as the “Heart of Rafiabad” and serves as a key administrative and commercial centre for the surrounding constituency. The new scheme is expected to support the town’s expanding population and infrastructure requirements.

The approval forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen essential civic infrastructure through capital expenditure investments during the 2026–27 financial year.

Officials said the project will play an important role in improving water security and delivering better public services to residents of Watergam and neighbouring areas.
