The Jammu and Kashmir government will organize “Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Memorial Lecture” by Indian-origin UK politician Lord Megnad Desai in Jammu on January 8 to commemorate the death anniversary of PDP founder and former chief minister.

“The government has also instituted an annual award named “Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Award for Probity in Public Life” to be conferred on a political personality from the country on the same day,” said an official.

He said the idea has been conceived by Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, who is also coordinating the programme.

Mufti Sayeed passed away on January 7 last year after nearly a week-long hospitalization in New Delhi.
