The life of Raja Mohammad Tasleem, District and Sessions Judge, was a tapestry of humility, dedication, and excellence. A man of substance, his journey from a modest beginning to the highest echelons of the judiciary is as inspiring as it is heartwarming.
Born and brought up in Srinagar, he began his educational journey at Government Middle School Kathi Darwaza, laying the foundation for a life steeped in knowledge and values. He later studied at the renowned SP Higher Secondary School Srinagar, where he also nurtured a passion for sports—particularly hockey. His skill on the field was remarkable; he went on to represent Jammu & Kashmir at the National Level, making his mark as a disciplined and talented player.
Academically driven, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts from Amar Singh College, Srinagar, followed by an LLB from the University of Kashmir. After completing his legal studies, he joined the Bar and practiced law for three years, quickly gaining respect for his ethical approach and legal acumen.
His quest for public service led him to qualify for the post of Prosecuting Officer, where he served for a year with utmost sincerity. However, his aspirations led him further. He successfully cleared the prestigious Kashmir Civil Services (Judicial) examination, marking the beginning of a distinguished judicial career. Through diligence, integrity, and unwavering commitment, he rose through the ranks to become a District and Sessions Judge, earning admiration across the legal fraternity.
Despite his demanding role, Raja Mohammad Tasleem never distanced himself from his roots or responsibilities toward society. After office hours, he could often be found teaching and mentoring young students, a testament to his belief in the power of education and personal growth.
To him, the law was not an abstract code but a living instrument of equity, and he wielded it with grace and precision. His conduct reflected his deep respect for humanity, fairness, and service to others. Those who knew him remember him as a man of deep faith, humility, and moral strength—a rare combination in today’s world.
Beyond the courtroom, his presence was a source of comfort to the people of his locality. His home was an open door to anyone in need—a heaven where the distressed found counsel, the weary found comfort, and the lost found direction. The inhabitants of his locality, who now grapple with an aching void, remember him not only as a neighbor but as a guardian angel whose presence radiated warmth and reassurance. His absence has left streets quieter, hearts heavier, and countless lives diminished by the loss of his boundless generosity.
To work alongside him was to witness greatness tempered by humility. His death has created a chasm in the legal fraternity, the social fabric of his community, and the hearts of his family—a void that no tribute can adequately measure. Yet, in this sorrow, we find solace in the legacy he leaves behind: a life lived in service, a career defined by principle, and a spirit that elevated everyone it touched.
Rest in eternal peace, Sir. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
