Gulmarg and other higher reaches of Kashmir Valley received snowfall while plains including this summer capital of the state had overnight rainfall, weatherman said on Wednesday.
At the same time, the Srinagar –Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with outside world, was through for the one-way traffic with vehicle allowed to proceed from Srinagar towards Jammu.
A Meteorological department official here told that Gulmarg, the world famous ski-resort had 1.5 inches of fresh snow overnight. The night temperature in the resort also recorded an increase, settling at minus 2.0 degree Celsius against minus 4.0 degree Celsius on previous night.
Srinagar had a rainfall of 0.8mm till 0830 hours on Wednesday while there was remarkable increase in night temperature due to cloud cover, recording a low of 5.8 against minus 0.9 degrees Celsius on the previous night.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, had overnight rainfall of 1.8mm till 0830 hours and recorded a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius, the official said.
Pahalgam, the world famous health resort in south Kashmir, also witnessed a rainfall of 3.8mm during the time while as it recorded a low of 1.4 degrees Celsius. Kokernag, another south Kashmir area, had overnight rainfall of 2.4mm till 0830 hours and recorded minimum of 2.2 degrees Celsius.
Ladakh region remained coldest in the state with Kargil recording a minimum of minus 9.0 degrees Celsius while Leh district recorded a low of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, the official added.
Meanwhile, a traffic department official told that nearly 300-kilomter Srinagar-Jammu highway was open for one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu.
