Srinagar, Oct 18 : The higher reaches of popular ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received snowfall on Tuesday evening while the plains were lashed by rains.

A meteorological department official told the news agency—that the Affarwat hills in Gulmarg received 2 inches of snowfall in the evening while plains at several places were lashed by rains resulting in cold weather conditions.

He said that light to moderate rain and snowfall over high reaches at isolated places was expected today and at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir on October 19-20.

He however said that there’s no forecast of any major snowfall for the next one week to 10 days in J&K and Ladakh.

Meanwhile, the snowfall shut the Mughal road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts this evening. “We have closed the road for vehicular traffic due to slippery road conditions in view of the snowfall,” the official said, adding that it will be open only after improvement in weather
