Harbhajan Singh has pulled out of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League due to personal reasons. The 40-year-old offspinner has become the second high-profile Chennai Super Kings player after Suresh Raina to opt out of the tournament that is set to kick off in the UAE on September 19.

Harbhajan had already skipped the six-day camp in Chennai last month and did not travel with the squad to the UAE on August 21, informing the franchise that he would join them later. The veteran spinner joined CSK in 2018 and has so far played 24 games for the franchise, picking up 23 wickets, winning the title on one occasion and reaching the final on the other.

Last week, batting mainstay Raina also opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons and returned to India even though he has hinted since then that he might return later at some stage. 13 people including two players were tested positive for Covid-19 in the CSK camp in the UAE. The squad has now been given the go-ahead to start training from Friday (September 4) after testing negative in the latest results. The two affected players will be tested after their 14-day isolation period gets over.
