Srinagar, Jul 15: National Conference MP Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on his own party’s Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of abandoning the promises made to the people before the Assembly elections and limiting the political discourse to the restoration of statehood.
Speaking to reporters, Ruhullah said Omar Abdullah had promised to restore what the BJP took away from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. However, he alleged that the Chief Minister has now shifted his focus solely to the restoration of statehood.
“He now speaks only about restoring statehood because he wants his power back, not the aspirations of the people or the promises he made before the Assembly elections,” Ruhullah said.
Continuing his criticism, the Srinagar MP claimed that the restoration of statehood was already part of the BJP-led Centre’s stated roadmap and questioned why the National Conference had narrowed its political demand to that issue alone.
“If restoration of statehood is the BJP’s agenda, then tell me who the real BJP agent is,” he remarked.
